The Mining Association of Canada’s Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) standard is a globally recognized sustainability program that supports mining companies in managing key environmental and social risks. TSM turns high-level commitments into site-level action through guiding principles, performance protocols, annual public reporting, external verification, and continuous improvement expectations.
This pilot community will explore how the UN Transparency Protocol and the Critical Raw Materials Transparency Protocol (CRMTP) can support interoperable digital exchange of sustainable mining performance information. The goal is to make mine-site sustainability data easier to reference in product passports, responsible sourcing workflows, investor due diligence, customer procurement, and downstream critical mineral value chains.

Mine-site sustainability performance:
Map TSM facility-level performance indicators, self-assessment results, and public reporting outputs into UNTP-compatible facility and conformity credentials.

Protocol and indicator alignment:
Align TSM protocols covering Indigenous and community relationships, crisis management, safe and respectful workplaces, equity and inclusion, child and forced labour prevention, tailings, biodiversity, water stewardship, and climate change.

Verification and digital trust:
Connect external verification, CEO letters of assurance, verification summary reports, and the TSM digital trusted credential pilot to reusable digital assurance records.

Facility data profile:
Define a mine-site facility profile that references operator, site, commodity scope, reporting year, applicable TSM protocols, and links to public performance reporting.

TSM performance credential mapping:
Model TSM indicator grades, protocol scope, reporting cycle, and external verification status as digital conformity credentials suitable for downstream responsible sourcing checks.

Verification evidence workflow:
Test how letters of assurance, verification summary reports, and verifier references can be linked without duplicating the underlying TSM verification process.

Downstream product-passport linkage:
Prepare pilot data patterns for connecting mine-site sustainability credentials to critical mineral product passports and downstream procurement claims.

Governance
Association-led sustainability program governance with TSM Guiding Principles, protocols, public reporting, external verification, and Community of Interest Panel review.
