The Global Battery Alliance (GBA) brings together organizations across the battery value chain to establish sustainable, responsible, and circular battery value chains by 2030. Its Battery Passport work is especially relevant to sustainable battery production because it combines digital product passport technology with harmonized sustainability reporting, verified facility-level data, product-level scoring, and comparable battery carbon footprint information.
This pilot community will explore how the UN Transparency Protocol and the Critical Raw Materials Transparency Protocol (CRMTP) can support interoperable data exchange for batteries from critical mineral inputs through cell and pack manufacturing, use, repair, reuse, recycling, and end-of-life reporting. The community will focus on making sustainability claims more traceable, comparable, and auditable without duplicating existing GBA governance or certification work.

Define a pilot profile for battery cells, modules, and packs that references product identifiers, production facility records, material inputs, carbon footprint data, and relevant sustainability indicators.

Facility and assurance mapping:
Map facility-level sustainability performance, verified documents, third-party assessment references, and assurance levels into digital credentials that can support Battery Passport scoring workflows.

Carbon footprint exchange:
Test a data exchange pattern for greenhouse gas reporting from production to recycling phases, supporting comparable battery carbon footprint claims and downstream regulatory reporting needs.

Circularity and end-of-life traceability:
Prepare pilot data elements for recycled content, repair, reuse, recycling, and end-of-life events so battery products can remain traceable across circular value-chain pathways.
